Make a Difference Day

Bloomfield Hills School District has been a part of the national event “Make a Difference Day” for many years. This is the largest day of community service in the US! This year, we are partnering with Kids Empowered on the Move (KEOTM) on Saturday, October 24th at South Hills Middle School.

Kids Empowered On The Move (KEOTM): A local nonprofit serving homeless and struggling families throughout Oakland County.

KEOTM's most critical work is providing emergency hotel shelter for families experiencing homelessness. That need is urgent: there is only one family shelter in all of Oakland County, with just 18 spots. KEOTM fills that gap, and each year it supports about 500 families through programs including:

• Emergency hotel shelter for families experiencing homelessness

• First month's rent and security deposits to help families move into permanent housing

• Adopt-a-Family for Christmas and Easter, including Easter baskets and a family meal

• Emergency food, clothing, furniture, and household essentials

• And many more urgent needs for families in crisis.

For Make A Difference Day, YOU can help families facing homelessness by building Boxes of Hope. Each box will be packed with essentials to support a family during one of the hardest times of their lives. Some boxes will go to families who are currently homeless. Others will go to families who are struggling to stay in their homes.

Bloomfield Hills Schools are collecting donations, and volunteers will gather at South Hills Middle School on 10/24 from 930 to 1130am to pack boxes and sort donations.

This Make A Difference Day, we aren't just packing boxes. We are reminding families in our own county that they are not alone. Whether you volunteer an hour, drop off a pair of gloves, or make a donation, every action helps a child stay warm, safe, and supported. Let's come together on October 24th and fill every box with hope!
